Clockwise from top left: Chuck Butler, Chuck Moore, Alicia Previn, & Patrick Duffin U.K. & Hungary 2007A little background…Chuck Butler is definitely an advocate of both life-time and long-term missions. However, the value of short-term missions abroad never crossed his mind until 1971 when he first traveled to London to minister in music with his band to over 80,000 people at The Festival of Light. In 1973, he and his wife Carol were the first Maranatha! Music missionaries sent out from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. By 1974, they had supported and helped establish various ministries in the UK, Holland and Germany. They returned to the U.K. in 1980 and planted three new churches in three years. But, it was in 1976, that Chuck first traveled with a team into communist Eastern Europe. When he saw pastors, who had only one or two of the New Testament letters or gospels in their own language, weeping over a single full Bible delivered to them by his team members, he was hooked. Over fifty short-term mission trips later, Chuck, and the musicians he’s traveled with, have committed themselves to bring the kind of encouragement that Paul the Apostle brought as he traveled to struggling and developing churches. Willing to respect various cultures, and through the international language of music, the band is able to engage philosophers, artists and visionaries and their modern versions of the “unknown God”. The breath of fresh air that this band brings today is appreciated by people on the streets, by new believers and by seasoned missionaries. The value of short-term mission is rarely ever imagined to the full. When you start pricing airline fares, a “here today / gone tomorrow” mentality, and a spirit of tourism, it’s easy to miss the spirit of investment in others, the priceless hours and days of encouragement a team can bring to those entrenched in the ministry and the selflessness that needs to season every effort that promotes Christ and his kingdom. You can join this band, this summer, without ever having to leave your home or church. Prayer can encircle the globe without time restraints or jet-lag. A gift to the band, or individual members (by name), can make the trip both affordable and keep their responsibilities at home on track. Each gift is also tax-deductible because they are being sent out through a partnership with North Coast Calvary Chapel in Carlsbad, California. Prayers can go up continually. Monetary gifts should be in the form of checks or money orders made payable to: NCCC with the memo corner of the check indicating U.K. / Hungary Mission ’07. ALSO, please attach a sticky or paper note to the check indicating which band member you would like your gift to help support for this trip, or you may simply say: The Chuck Butler Band and the gift will be used for the whole team. You can mail it to: NCCC, 7188 Avenida Encinas, Carlsbad, CA 92011. They are scheduling all transportation this week and they can lock in real savings with your gift arriving ASAP. We “get” the many good & great causes that you already support & we affirm your choices. Most of all…thank you so much for your prayers for God’s love to flow through the music and to change hearts forever. |
